The Perfect Drink Pairing For Your Quarantine Movie Marathons

Thirsty? We’ve got you covered.

The Perfect Drink Pairing For Every Quarantine-Special Movie Rental Right Now (1).png

We may all be stuck inside for the foreseeable future, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the finest batch of feature-length films Hollywood has to offer. Thanks to new social distancing rules, which has temporarily closed movie theaters nationwide, major movie studios are offering their flicks for digital rental or purchase on a variety of platforms. So make yourself a drink, pay the rental price, and settle down for two hours of escapism.

Emma (Available March 20): Rosé

A soft and sophisticated fit for one of Austen’s most celebrated heroines. At times superficial but always deliberate, Emma would absolutely sip a glass of rosé simply to compliment the pink hues of her gown. The best rosé is like Austen herself — not too dry and not too sweet.

The Invisible Man (Available March 20): Old Fashioned

This whiskey cocktail is a perfect match for the modern-day interpretation of a horror classic. You can just imagine H.G. Wells sitting back in a big armchair, sipping on an Old Fashioned himself, while writing the original story in the 1890s.

The Hunt (Available March 20): Stout

Stouts offer more than your basic pale ale; dark and satisfying, a stout will pair nicely with this thriller that is sure to make you think. Bonus points for choosing an imperial stout, which are high in alcohol content and are among the darkest of beers.

Onward (Available March 20): Gin Fizz

A gin fizz is a classic cocktail: fun, acidic and most likely to make you cry. Just like Pixar. Pair this fizzy lifting drink with Pixar’s latest family fantasy for an out-of-this world good time.

Saint Frances (Available March 21): Home-brewed beer

This indie film should be paired with an indie drink, and what’s more hipster-esque than brewing your own beer at home? Not into doing all the hard work yourself? Head to your local brewery and support their small business by picking up a six-pack.

The Way Back (Available March 24): IPA

Starring Ben Affleck as the cliche, washed-up athlete turned inspirational coach, this film must be paired with an IPA to satisfy all the sports bros in our lives. Everyone knows that IPAs are basically the “pumpkin spice lattes” of millennial men.

Bloodshot (Available March 24): Bloody Mary

These don’t match simply because they share the word “blood,” but because based on reviews, this video-game adaptation might cause you so much of a headache that you’ll need a hangover cure to fix it.

Birds of Prey (Available March 24): Tequila Sunrise

The tequila sunrise, like the women who make up Birds of Prey’s kick-ass crime-fighting team, is fun, flirty, and packs a punch. Watch Harley fight crime alongside Black Canary and Huntress while getting blitzed on a fruity cocktail.

The Gentlemen (Available March 24): Gin and Tonic

A classic British drink for a classy (mostly) British ensemble; this highball cocktail is as classic and crisp as a Burberry three-piece suit. This is a pairing that the film’s director Guy Ritchie would certainly approve of.

Just Mercy (Available March 24): Dirty Martini

Just Mercy is the latest legal drama to hit the (virtual) silver screen. A dirty martini is the perfect stiff drink to pair with this heavy plotline. By the end of this movie, this pairing will convince you you’re at an upscale Manhattan bar frequented by lawyers, rather than quarantined at home.

I Still Believe (Available March 27): Boxed Wine

Ah, boxed wine; strong enough for a Mom’s night, but light enough that you can still make it to virtual-Church the next morning. This staple of middle-aged women’s pantries and sorority dorms alike is sure to be a hit at your viewing party of the newest Christian romance drama.

Trolls World Tour (Available April 10): Jello Shots

If you enjoyed the botched celebrity performance of Imagine, then check out this star-studded animated music fest. All the crazy colors of jello shots will compliment the film, while the liquor will be strong enough to get you through this potentially hellish experience.
